Knifesmithing Weekend - Scale handle knives

Details
NEW CLASS!
In this class we will be making a beautiful and useful knife for kitchen or field use.
On day one, we will create the steel portion of our knives.
We will start with 1084 tool steel at 5/32" thick and 1.5 x 10 inches long. We will be sawing and grinding our profiles and beveling using belt grinders.
Then we will drill, sand and polish our knives to prepare them for heat treating and tempering.
Once heat treating is done, we will put our knives in the tempering oven and class will be dismissed for the day.
On day two we will focus on creating handles for our new blades.
We will be using a combination of wood and resin parts to make our handles and pin them in place with brass pins and epoxy.
The next steps will be to shape and polish the wood and resin handles, and finally sharpen our new knives.
This is a 2-day class from noon until 3:30 to 4:00 p.m. each day.
Feel free to bring snacks or beverages.
Class Size: 5 students (plus one teacher)
