Leatherworking for knife makers - leather sheath for YOUR knife

Details

If you have taken one of our MANY knife making classes, you know that making a sheath is an entirely different skill from blacksmithing. Working with leather doesn't have to be difficult, though. So grab that knife you made here (or acquired elsewhere) and come learn the tricks of the trade.

In this class we will making 5 layer welted leather sheaths for any knife you bring to class (up to 11 inches of blade).

We will be using full grain tooling leather and synthetic sinew, rivets and snaps to design and make a one of a kind sheath.

We will start with some tracing and 2D scanning then on to some cad drawing software (Corel draw or Inkscape) to draw each part. We will then learn how to use a laser to cut our leather parts for a perfect fit.

Then we can glue and saddle stitch everything together, before dyeing and finishing our sheaths and adding finishing touches like straps and rings.

This is an all day class from noon until you complete your sheath, but typically lasts 3- 3.5 hours. Feel free to bring snack or beverages, plus we have vending machines.

Class Size: 6 (five students plus teacher)
Cost: $110
Ages: 13 & up
REFUND POLICY: You must cancel your RSVP at least 3 DAYS before the day of the event to receive a refund.
