A late Summer Day out in Windsor and Eton

Details

8 years ago we came to Windsor and Eton and the vast array of photos that everyone took shows that the place is crying out for a return visit.

The plan is we meet up at 10.00 on the river promenade where River St joins Barry Avenue by the swan and duck feeding area on google maps. We'll head off at 10.15 sharp and cross the pedestrian bridge into High St, Eton. Both sides of the High Street there are photo opportunities with quaint cottages, shops and flowers. At the top of the High St is Eton College itself with impressive buildings and statues.

It'll soon be lunchtime and as we wander back we can find a pub to meet up at again before crossing back over the river to explore Windsor itself, walking up Thames St, past the theatre and castle as far as the Long Walk in Windsor Great Park with a view down to the statue of King George III on his horse. If you want and have enough energy there are amazing views back to the castle from the Long Walk.

When it's time to head back we can go - either the way we came or cutting to our left to Peascod St, the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre and the station and then possibly meeting for a drink in Brown's Bar which is opposite where we started. Don't miss the Diamond Jubilee Water Fountains en route.
This is only a suggestion of a route and some may want to follow their own routes or spend more time in a particular place or folk may want to stick together - I'll email my phone number nearer the time in case anybody is late, or lost.

A bit of fun - let's play the 'Alphabet Game' (not compulsory) - try to look for photos that together spell the word..........'ROYAL' - I'll explain on the day - only a bit of fun. As usual please feel free to upload photos to the group gallery after the event and it would be great if you could comment on each others' so that we all learn from each other.

Meetup Point - : ///flat.fast.intelligible
Meetup Cost - £5 cash please for each person going (please have exact cash)
Parking - I intend to park in King Edward VII car park in the same avenue which is near Windsor and Eton Riverside station. £13.00 for over 5 hours.

It is a longish walk so please dress accordingly with comfy shoes and take note of the weather.

So this should be a great day out - please join us. All cameras and Phone-cameras welcome. All experience levels also welcome. If you are new to the group you will find everyone really sociable and friendly.

See you there.

Peter
