An Autumn Walk around Virginia Water
Details
N.B. PLEASE NOTE THE MEETUP TIME FOR THIS EVENT IS 10.30 GMT and NOT BST.
This is a repeat of our almost annual visit to this beautiful part of Windsor Great Park and has always proved popular, not only for the great photography but also for the joy of a walk in lovely surroundings. The beautiful colours of autumn will be everywhere in this walk around the great 'pond' in Windsor Great Park. Not only the leaves but if it is sunny, the glinting light and reflections in the lake itself. Many things to photograph, including the Cascade, the Roman Ruins and the Totem Pole - prize for anyone climbing to the top!!! (Joking!). There will also be opportunities for photographing the mushrooms and toadstools.
Cost of meetup - £5.00 payable on the day in cash. Parking is £3.10 per hour.
Virginia Water is an artificial lake - first established in 1753 as part of Windsor Great Park. It is said that it was often visited by Queen Victoria.
So we'll meetup at 10.30 at the entrance next to the Pavilion cafe and head off at 10.45 sharp. Entrance is free. There is a big car park. The walk is about 5.2 miles. We'll follow the path, turning left after entry and walk round the lake in a clockwise direction, with diversions en route to see the different things. Last time we came we got separated and I suspect this will happen again so we can try to arrange to meet at specific times around the circuit - maybe at the cafe in the park which is about half way round - we'll decide on the day......
The attractions are:
- The Cascade
- built by George III in 1780's - try your hand at long exposures - you'll need a tripod and ND filter.
- The Leptis Magna Ruins - an ancient roman relic.......(actually not - it's a folly built in the C19!!)
- Five Arch Bridge
- The Boat House
- The Totem Pole
So that's about it - lots to photograph - hopefully sunny but if there is a little rain we'll still go as rainy days can make for great photos.
Everyone is welcome whatever your camera/phone or level of experience. Dogs on leads welcome.
CHALLENGES:
Try to capture Autumn - the trees, the colours, maybe some toadstools/mushrooms.
TIPS:
- Water, walking shoes, brolly.
- Tripod and ND filter if you want to take long exposures of the cascade.
Afterwards don't forget to upload your photos to the website and please comment on other folks' photos.
REMEMBER CLOCKS GO BACK 1 HOUR IN THE NIGHT BEFORE.
PLEASE CHECK THE WEB SITE BEFORE YOU LEAVE HOME IF THE WEATHER IS EITHER TOO WET OR WINDY WE MAY NEED TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE - the park tends to be closed if very windy.
See you all there. Peter
