Monthly Meetup #11: Driving Code with Data

Details

The special talk for this meetup is Driving Code with Data, presented by a former game industry programmer who has worked on titles such as Star Trek Online and Ara: History Untold.

Talk Description: The lines between code and data can become increasingly blurred when the behavior of code is influenced more and more by the data. This talk will show how data can progressively become more of a driver, with a discussion afterwards about the advantages and disadvantages of data-driven code.

Agenda:
- 2-3pm: Intros, project updates, demos, and topics from the group
- 3-4pm: Special Talk & Discussion
- 4-4:30pm: Anything the group wants to talk about
- 4:30pm - whenever: Grab some food and hang out

Write in the comments or message a host if you want to have something to demo, discuss, or present for the first half of the meetup!

What we do
Presentations on lower-level, foundational programming topics, ethical software, knowledge sharing, mentoring, and discussion.

Who we are:
We are all about handmade software. Rather than focus on frameworks, heavy abstractions, and buzzwords - we typically create projects or research topics that build an understanding of foundational computing concepts, essential data structures, and hardware/software interaction.

What to bring?
Bring a laptop, project, or just a curious mind. If you're not sure you're ready to contribute, don't worry: we're all here to share our passions and hone our craft.

If you arrive late:
Please enter the room quietly as to not disrupt anyone that is presenting. You can take any empty seat. We will have a sign with the word "Handmade" outside of the meeting room.

Finding Us:
We will be in Room 2 at West End Library. That is the smaller of the two meeting rooms.
