Hussif - Service Project

What is a hussif?
A hussif (or housewife) is a small sewing kit that rolls up to fit in a pocket. Traditionally
carried by soldiers and sailors.

At this workshop we’ll be assembling 40 hussifs to donate to Mind the Gap a
St Louis charity for distribution on one of their Thursday night outreach dates.
I’m looking for a small group of people to help with this project.
Activities include machine sewing the fabric, a little hand sewing to finish construction, ironing and addition of needles, pins, thread to each one.

This homeless outreach effort began operating in 2012 on Thursday nights every week and evolved into a nonprofit organization in 2017. They specialize in face-to-face interaction with displaced individuals in St. Louis and surrounding areas.
