We have an expression in Australia - "Going to the snow." This year we're going somewhere new - Mt St Gwinear has great cross-country trails and is completely free! No resort entry cost! Just hire some skis and get skiing!
There's no ski school on this trip! But if you haven't skied before, we can give you some tips on the day. These are easy cross-country trails. :-)
We start early to give us more daylight hours in the white stuff, and the plan is to do a little cross country ski, have lunch somewhere, then ski back. :-)
Rough Plan of the Day
9am - Meet at Erica Ski Hire and pick up snow gear. (If you need a lift, leave a comment!)
9:30am - Leave for Erica Ski Hire and head for Mt St Gwinear Ski Carpark
10:30am - Arrive at Mt St Gwinear Ski Carpark. Put our gear on. Do some cross country skiing** and tobogganing**.
12 noon - Have a picnic/bbq (I'll bring my portastove.)
1pm - Spend a few hours playing in the snow. Make snowmen, etc. Take a walk to a nearby peak.
2pm Do a longer beginner ski trail.
Anything else we want to do. :-D
6.00pm - Drive back
Transport
If you need a lift, leave a comment. We need to carpool as resort entry is per car.
Clothing
Wear warm clothes! Scarf, gloves, all your winter warmies! Most importantly, wear wet-proof pants! ($10-$20 at most hiking/sports shops)
Food
I will be bringing vegan hot dogs, bread rolls, margarine, tomato sauce, mustard, and a portable vegan barbeque. If that's ok, just rock up! Otherwise, bring something to share. :-)
Anything else?
I'm always open to suggestions to make this even funner. :-D
What if there's no snow???
We'll give you at least 48-hours warning if it's postponed due to insufficient snow.
