What we’re about
Welcome to the Happy Readers Book Club! This is a casual book club where we meet at local Saint Louis happy hours. Bring your copy of that months book and find others with the book as well. I will also recommend a color to wear so we can identify each other in case people did audiobooks or kindles.
Each month is a different genre, so there should be something for everyone throughout the year. The genre's are:
January - Pulitzer for Fiction
February - Romance
March - Sci-Fi
April - Thriller
May - Classic
June - Historical Fiction
July - Random Genre
August - Mystery
September - Non-Fiction
October - Spooky
November - Memoir
December - Magical Realism/Fantasy
Dues are $10 a year to offset the cost of a meetup organizer membership.
Some questions you may have:
If I don't like the meeting, can I have a refund of my dues? No, the dues are non-refundable. They do auto-renew each year from the date you join, so make sure to leave the group if you do not like it.
What area of the city do you meet in? All over, from St. Charles to the Gateway Arch, we may even venture into Illinois.
Do I have to read the book? I would recommend it. I can't force you to, but I'm not sure why you're in a book club if you don't even attempt to read it.
Are men allowed to attend? Yes, this is open to all genders. If there is any harassment, you will be banned from the group. So, men don't harass women, women don't harass men, they/them's same goes for you, nobody harass anybody.
Will you pay for my food and drinks? Absolutely not.
What happens if I am late? This is aiming for a casual vibe, so if happy hour is 3 to 6 and you show up at 4, that's fine. You can show up at 8 if you want, but it will probably be over.
Can I pick a book? If you want to suggest a book to meet up with others who love that book, I have no problem setting up an event for you. Shoot me a message on the book, day, time and if you have a preferred spot and I will list it.
I don't drink, can I come to happy hour? Yes, come, enjoy a mocktail, soda, iced tea, water, or stay parched and have a great conversation about a book.
I drink a ton, can I still go? Yes, but try to keep it together friend. We will make sure you don't drive though.
Will the books have any sensitive topics? Yes, this book club is dedicated to a variety of authors, genres, and viewpoints. Only rule is not to personally attack someone over their point of view, even if you disagree. Respect is paramount.
Have you ran a book club in the past? Yes, I run the Saint Louis Literary Ladies, a more structured book club but these events are posted there as well. Hopefully, we have a good sized group and lots of good discussions.
Can you think of anymore questions? No.
