WAF34 - Shingle Creek Regional Park - 5k or 10k walk
Details
Join us in the Orlando, FL area for the 34th edition of "Walk Around Florida" (WAF34) - a three-day weekend walking festival sponsored by the Happy Wanderers, Mid-Florida Milers (Orlando) and Suncoast Sandpipers (Tampa) of Central Florida, and AVA: America's Walking Club! We expect over 100 walkers for our events this weekend, participating individually, couples, or small groups.
You may be pre-registered (for brochure - see our website: www.happywanderersfl.org) or register on-site the same day for the SUNDAY MORNING and last walk of the festival - at the start/finish point at the Osceola County Welcome Center and Museum on Rte 192 (Vine St.)
You will walk for 1 hour or 2 hours in Shingle Creek Regional Park on a well-shaded, multi-use trail alongside the Shingle Creek waterway, which feeds into Lake Tohopekaliga ("Lake Toho") forming part of the headwaters of the Everglades. The portion of the trail through Shingle Creek Regional Park, running north from West Vine Street, leads to Pioneer Village, which is a recreated settlement comprised of a permanent collection of authentic structures from the 1800's which once stood in different areas of Osceola County.
A map and written directions will be available at the start, and Checkpoints on the routes provide bathrooms, water and snacks.
The walks are AVA-rated 1A and are suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Pets (leashed) are permitted.
The event is $4.00 for all participants 12 and older. Minors must be accompanied by an adult. IVV credit will be available for all participants. AVA Special programs are listed in the registration brochure.
