Join the Happy Wanderers in Palatka, FL and see the spectacular azaleas in bloom at Ravine Gardens State Park - a CCC-built CPA project dating to the 1930s. Walk this historic town on the St. John's River and see the many murals on display. Enjoy vendors and food at the festival.
This year the format will be guided walks - with Registration open from 9:30 am to 10:00 a.m. and the cost is $4.00 for participants 12yrs old or older. Children to be accompanied by an adult. You may walk with a group or at your own pace. Maps and Directions are provided for the trails.
There are 2 options for AVA-sanctioned 6km (3.7 miles) or 11km (6.2 miles) group walks that either include the downtown festival, or the festival and the gardens. The 6km walk in town is rated 1A (flat & easy) while the 11km trail is rated 2C for some moderately difficult and hilly terrain inside the Ravine Gardens (2 miles). There is also a separate entry fee for accessing the State Park portion of the walk - payable by CC at the gate, or using the QR code (same day only) at the start point.
AVA Special Programs include: City/Town Halls, Walking with America's Veterans and Walking the USA A--Z (P).
Palatka is about and hour from the Daytona beach area. Driving north on I-95 take Exit #273, and drive north on US Rte 1 for about 20 miles going through Bunnell to FL 100 (right turn onto ramp). Continue another 24 miles on FL 100 to Rte. 17, North, crossing the St. John's River. Turn right IMMEDIATELY after crossing the bridge and the hotel is on your right.
Volksmarchers will receive IVV/AVA credit for this walk.
