Hontoon Island State Park AVA YRE 5/10km Walks

Join the Happy Wanderers on National Trails Day as we visit Hontoon Island State Park - a unique "hidden gem" location on the St. John's River that once served as a settlement for Timucuan Indians.
Please allow extra driving time and plan to be AT the parking area by 8:30 AM. You will then que for the ferry ride (6 passenger limit) for the 5 minute (free) ride across to the island, Sign in registration & bathrooms are on island in front of the Ranger Station/Store. We depart on the walks as a group at 9:00AM. If we see walkers are still queuing for ferry, the group will wait. (Please shoot to be in parking lot by 8:30AM.)
These walks are offered for AVA/IVV credit and rated 1C - flat & easy. The trails are gravel, dirt or grassy, and can be muddy in some places depending on recent weather - so we recommend you wear good sneakers, trail shoes or hiking boots. Carry drinking water and consider sunscreen and bug spray.
Event cost is $4.00 for all walkers, except children 12 and under. Leashed pets are permitted.
