Risk, Set, Setting: Where Harm or Care Can Happen

Why do the same drugs carry very different risks in different moments, bodies, and places? This interactive workshop introduces the risk, set, and setting framework as a practical way to understand drug-related harm and where safety and care can make a real difference.

Together, we’ll explore how mindset, emotional state, trauma, environment, and access to resources shape people’s experiences with drugs. We’ll focus especially on set and setting as places where person-centered, trauma-informed care can reduce harm, even when risk itself can’t be fully controlled.

This session is discussion-forward and grounded in real-world examples. People who use drugs, loved ones, and professionals are all welcome. No expertise required. Come curious, reflective, and ready to think together about how small shifts can support safety, dignity, and survival.
