Trauma & Addiction 102: Substance Use and Trauma-Informed Harm Reduction
Details
How does trauma shape substance use, and how can we respond in ways that support safety, dignity, and choice?
In this 90-minute, interactive workshop, we’ll explore substance use through a trauma-informed lens, using real-life scenarios and discussion to connect theory with practice.
Together, we’ll:
- Understand how trauma can increase vulnerability to substance use
- Reframe substance use as adaptation rather than pathology
- Explore core principles of trauma-informed care
- Recognize trauma-informed vs. trauma-reactive responses
- Apply these principles to harm reduction practice
This is a discussion-centered space where learning is grounded in both lived experience and shared knowledge.
People who use drugs, peers, providers, and community members are all welcome. No prior experience needed, just curiosity and a willingness to engage.
