Harrisonburg Writers Critique Circle

Harrisonburg and Rockingham County writers prepare to unlock your creativity at our next Flash Fiction Critique Workshop.

We'll dive into the captivating world of flash fiction where every word counts. Whether you're a seasoned writer or just dipping your toes into the writing waters, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to craft compelling micro-narratives that leave a lasting impact.

The critique session will provide invaluable feedback from fellow participants, offering fresh perspectives and sharpening your storytelling skills.

AGENDA:

INTRODUCTIONS - We'll get to learn a little about each other

CRITIQUES - We'll read aloud our work, then go around the room offering constructive criticism.

PRESENTATION -

James will present on self-publishing with Atticus and Ingram Spark.

WHAT TO BRING:
- Twelve (12) copies of your submission. It need not be fiction. Creative non-fiction, memoir, humorous essay, etc. are all welcome as long as you keep it under 1,000 words. (That's a hard limit). 1.5 spacing. Line numbers. Word count noted on page 1.

- Lunch/snack and drink. Food and drink are not permitted in the library, but there's an exception for the meeting rooms.

- A positive attitude, a desire to learn, a willingness to accept criticism, and a determination to have fun.

Spots are limited, so please don't RSVP unless you plan to attend. If you find you can't attend, change your RSVP as soon as possible to allow people on the waitlist to alter their plans.

We'll break halfway through the workshop, so people who have cars in two-hour parking can move their vehicles to avoid a parking ticket.

Directions to VMRC’s Park Place theater.

From Virginia Avenue turn onto the main entrance (there is a large digital sign and lights at the front entrance saying VMRC). Go straight up the road towards the flagpole and around the rotunda, and turn left into the visitor's parking lot.

Enter through the double door at Park Gables (there is a sign there saying "visitor's entrance") and turn right. Once you get past the cafe and the Credit Union, turn left (the only direction you can go) and continue up the hall on "Main Street". Do NOT turn right to Heritage Haven (you know you've gone the wrong way if you see artwork on pedestals)--you should be going up a long slanted hallway.

Keep going all the way to the end of the hallway past the small section of residential doors until you reach a small dining area and espresso bar. This is the Park Place lobby. There is a long hallway to your left with an elevator, a water fountain, and a community board: at the end of this hallway is the meeting room.

From the intersection of Virginia Avenue (Rte.42) and Mt. Clinton Pike, drive west on Mt. Clinton Pike, (past Gift & Thrift on the left) and take Park Rd, the first turning on the right (nearly opposite a gas station). Drive north on Park Rd, past EMU and its playing fields and turn right on Shank Drive. Park in visitors’ parking spaces on the right. Park Place is nearby—3-storey building with the main entrance at the front. Inside, turn sharp right after the desk and the theater is right at the end of the corridor.

New members are always welcome. At your first meeting, you'll get a chance to observe our critique process. Please contact me and provide your email address to gain access to the writing submissions.

After attending two critique sessions, you will be invited to submit your work. At that time a $10 annual fee will come due to cover the costs of Meetup.

While our group meets at Massanutten Library, we are not affiliated or endorsed by the library.
