What we’re about
Perhaps, like me, you bought Harry Potter in Latin or in Welsh, but haven't actually read it yet. It might be more fun with fellow readers, so I'm organizing this group to see if others would like to join me. I'm reasonably fluent in Welsh (I also run the Dysgu Cymraeg meetup for teaching Welsh) and my Latin, is, well, rusty but enthusiastic. Depending on the geographic location of Potter readers, we may have some sessions online so all can participate.
Also, while I plan to start with Cymraeg and Latina, I'd love to keep reading the books in other languages I've studied, preferably with colleagues. I'm currently running two levels of Irish language Harry Potter readers (Gaeilge), one for beginners and one at an advanced (líofa) level. Beginners could still join, though some background for that group is needed and it is run more like a class. At some point, I might start another advanced group for Irish.
How much background would you need for this? Well, some, but we'll all have questions. I'll provide some vocabulary guidance -- as we all know, I imagine these texts will have some fun words that were never in our school textbooks. "Bezoar" yn Gymraeg? "Eejit" in lingua latina? Hope you're interested in joining me. - Róisín
