[ONLINE] Harry Potter Discussion: Divination and Prophecy

Join us at a Harry Potter Discussion Night! As the 'seventh month dies', we'll be chatting about Divination, Professor Trelawney, and prophecy (particularly the big one).

As regulars will know, we use the theme simply as a starting point. We can go off on any number of tangents (Potter-related or no), so it's a pretty informal discussion/chat.

Some questions we might touch on:

• Do you think the main prophecy was ambiguous or self-fulfilling?
• Was Trelawney a real Seer? Does it matter?
• How important was the theme of fate in this series?
• Albus Dumbledore said: "It is our Choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities". How does this interplay with fate? Do the characters' choices truly matter?
• Should Divination be a Hogwarts class?
• Firenze argued that not all things can be determined/predicted. Is this more 'legit' than Trelawney's absolute belief?
• If Voldemort had heard the entire prophecy, do you think things would have changed?
• Was Voldemort's downfall in believing in the prophecy?
