[ONLINE] Harry Potter Discussion: Ron Weasley
Details
Join us at a Harry Potter Discussion Night! We'll be chatting about Ron Weasley. A polarizing character for many, as his birthday's March 1st I figured we could chat about this interesting character. Annabella also pointed out that this would be a great time to talk about the entire Weasley family, and I totally agree!
As regulars will know, we use the theme simply as a starting point. We can go off on any number of tangents (Potter-related or no), so it's a pretty informal discussion/chat.
IMPORTANT: We'll be on Google Meet this week, where the link is visible to RSVPs.
Some questions we might touch on:
- How did, or did Ron change throughout the series?
- Why were Harry and Ron so close? What was Ron's 'role' in the Golden Trio?
- How important are the Weasleys to the plot?
- As the Weasleys are pureblood, what does it say that they still stood up to Voldemort? Is this a different type of bravery then exhibited by Harry and Hermione?
- The 1st book emphasises Ron's strategic talents (what with chess and the like), which is then largely dropped. Do you wish this had been elaborated on?
- Fandom really dislikes Ron (arguably, so does the movies). Why is this? Do you view his flaws as normal, or egregious?
- Do you like that Ron and Hermione got together?
- Did Ron leave in the 7th book due to his own volition, or due to the horcrux?
- Was Gryffindor the correct Hogwarts House for him? Could you see him elsewhere?
