[ONLINE] Harry Potter "Chamber of Secrets" Book Club: Chs 1-2

This week we'll be reading "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets"! Unlike regular book clubs, we're (re)reading the HP novels a few chapters at a time. This meetup is especially exciting, as we're starting the second book! It's a good omen that we're starting this on Friday the 13th, right? Right.

We'll be discussing Ch. 1: 'The Worst Birthday' and Ch. 2: 'Dobby's Warning'. Here's a quick summary: The first book is summarized as we open on #4 Privet Drive and the Dursleys. Vernon's very excited about his dinner party...and nobody cares about poor Harry's birthday. As Harry hides away from the dinner, Dobby the house-elf appears. Dobby has a dire warning that Harry cannot return to Hogwarts! Harry says no, Dobby destroys the dinner and blames Harry, and the Dursleys lock Harry up (but apart from the mental scarring, it's okay, he'll be rescued in the next chapter).

First-timers are always welcome and the reading is only meant to be a jump-off point for conversation. Don't worry if you're a newcomer, as each book club is independent of each other. It's also fine if you don't have time to read or finish the text; we're an informal bunch and just love to chat!
