[ONLINE] Harry Potter Discussion: Happy Mum's Day
Details
To celebrate Mother's Day (in the US), this week’s meetup will be about the wonderful (and not so wonderful) mums in the wizarding world. From Lily Potter, Walburga Black, to arcane magical protection laws, there's much to chat about and poke plot holes in.
Some questions we might touch on:
- Was it sheer dumb luck that Lily Potter was able to save her son's life?
- Is it fair that Lily's sacrifice is focussed on more than James'?
- Why was Petunia Dursley so against magic?
- Was Molly Weasley one of the best mums, entirely overbearing, or a mixture of both?
- There's a plethora of maternal figures in the books. Do the paternal figures get overlooked?
- Should both Remus and Tonks have been at the Battle of Hogwarts?
- Was Merope Gaunt more a villain at fault, or was she a desperate woman in love?
- Was Narcissa Malfoy a good mother? If so, does this negate some of her other faults?
- Who were the best and worst moms in the series? Who were the best and worst dads?
We use the theme simply as a starting point. We'll go off on any number of tangents (Potter-related or no), so it's a pretty informal discussion/chat. We’ll be using Google Meet for this meetup, and the link is only visible to RSVPs.
