Hike Paugussett State Park, Zoar Trail, Newtown CT

TRAINING HIKE
Gosh Darnit, we are going to hike here.

This will be a challenging 7 mile loop along the Housatonic River and back up into the park. There will be water crossings and waterfalls including Prydden Falls. This trail starts off gentle and pretty with views of Kettletown State Park and then it works hard to kick your butt by making you climb. Not a beginner hike.

You will need to assess your ability to keep pace. I will call this a moderate pace but it will be 2 miles per hour. We will stop for snacks and definitely photos.

I strongly recommend waterproof hiking boots, hiking pole due to the uneven and challenging terrain, and a pack with water, food, and layered clothing. Dogs must be on leash and not running through the group. No kids.

Best directions are take rt. 84 west to exit 11, follow rt. 34 south 4.9 miles to Great Quarter Rd. Turn down this narrow road in a neighborhood and follow it to the end where there is parking. There are NO BATHROOMS. I suggest getting off at exit 15, Southbury and taking a right and a right up into the plaza and using the McDonalds.

• The group will not adjust speed or trail route to accommodate your schedule.
• If you cannot attend an event, please cancel 48 hours before. Late cancellations are rude and take away the option for others to join the event.
• Be a good hiking human.

HAH COVID update for this event
Any attendees who have tested positive, have symptoms or have been in direct contact with an infected person should not attend.
