Slower moderate 5-1/2-mile Hike: Marion K Wilcox Park to Penwood, Bloomfield
Details
Last minute posting!
Not exactly a beginner hike, but if you are somewhat active and coordinated you will be fine. 5-1/2-mile, slower-paced moderate hike with 800 feet elevation, through forests and along a ridge area with views. We go the pace of the slowest hiker, which is usually me!
Hike Description
We'll have quite a few ups and downs as we go up to the Metacomet Trail on the ridgeline and traverse it south to Penwood State Park, where we'll switch to the orange trail. The trail has a few moderate ups and downs, and a rock stair ascent to Pinnacle Peak. We'll admire the view, have a snack, and congratulate ourselves on the achievement.
On the way back, we get back on the Metacomet where we'll enjoy more ups and downs where we'll need to watch take extra care on the rocky parts of the trail.
What to Bring
Wear hiking shoes or boots appropriate for roots and rocks and a few steep trails. Poles are helpful if you like using them. Bring water, a high calorie snack, sunscreen, layers, and a backpack to carry it all.
A cellphone with backup battery is always wise. A paper map is always a good thing to have just in case.

• I keep my groups small - be diligent and thoughtful with your RSVP.
