Hike at Steep Rock Preserve, Washington Depot CT January Birthdays

It's my birthday, well it was on the 9th. And Catherine Lim has a birthday January 11. Lori Davidson will be celebrated this month also. I think a lovely hike is in order. I would appreciate some company to help add to the celebration. Steep Rock is always a gorgeous park. Hopefully the tunnel will be frozen when we get there.

We are going to do a six-ish mile hike around Steep Rock Preserve. This hike will include climbing and beautiful views. Please bring a small pack that includes food and water (insulated bottles). We will check weather closer to the date for additional equipment. We are in microspike season so please be prepared with those.

While the trails in this park are generally kind, if we get ice and snow you will be required to have appropriate traction devices.
REI is a good resource for this item.

We are into winter weather so no cotton clothing. Dress in layers and waterproof boots are recommended. Dogs must be on a leash, and no children.
There is no bathroom at the parking area.

Most cell phones don't work in the steep rock area. Get onto River Rd off route 47. About 100' south of route 109 follow River Rd for about a mile or two and Tunnel Rd will be on your left. Cross the bridge to the parking area.

We are going to return to the 202 Tavern for birthday lunch when we finish hiking. Please bring cash. We will take the check and divide by the number of folks who attend lunch. Drinks are on you if you choose to have one.
