We'll walk along the route of the former South Manchester Railroad, built in 1869 to connect the Cheney silk mills to the main rail line in the North End. At 2.5 miles, it was the shortest private freight-and-passenger railroad in the United States. Historic commentary means a moderate pace. Fairly flat terrain along sidewalks and railtriail, proceeding north toward Center Springs Park. About 3 miles round trip. Extreme weather cancels. No dogs, please. Free. Sponsored by the Manchester Land Trust and the Manchester Historical Society.
