GBHumanists November Talk and Lunch: "Poly WHAT?" An Intro to Polyamory
Details
As we celebrate coming together early for Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving, we'll dine together in secular community at India Pavilion Restaurant, 17 Central Square, Cambridge on Sunday, November 23 at 1:30 pm.
Our special guest with be UU-Humanist and Polyamory exponent Valerie White, who will talk on "Poly WHAT?"
THE TALK:
"The term 'polyamory' was coined in 1990 by Morning Glory Zell to describe a lovestyle that existed long before then—in open marriage and free love, for example. It’s a subset of consensual (or ethical) non-monogamy, the larger category which can also include swinging, relationship anarchy, and polyfidelity. But how does polyamory work? Don’t people get jealous? What about the kids? Valerie White will answer these questions and more!"
Born to atheist parents, Valerie White discovered Unitarian Universalism
in college and has been an active Humanist UU ever since. She has served in several capacities at the American Humanist Association, including as associate editor of “The Humanist” magazine and as board Vice President. She was the Freedom from Religion Foundation’s “Freethinker of the Year” for successfully suing (with the ACLU’s help) to remove a lighted cross from a courthouse lawn in Vermont, where she is admitted to practice law.
She was the founding president of UUs for Polyamory Awareness. Her
polyamorous family is in its 31st year. Her article about polyamory
appeared in “The Humanist” magazine.
