We'll get together via a Zoom to PARTY and celebrate 'Humanlight', a secular add-on to Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas, or whatever cultural Winter Solstice tradition you are part of.

Our secular alternative social will also welcome (back) Special Guest James Croft, formerly of the Humanist Chaplaincy at Harvard and a former leader of The Ethical Society of St Louis, joining us from Sussex U in England where he is a secular humanist Chaplain!

He'll give a talk on "How a Humanist Can Be a Chaplain" on the career, and the differences between such work in the UK compared to the USA.

This is a chance to reconnect not only with James, but with others who are likewise distant in space from other Humanists in the Boston area. It's also a moment to reflect together during a period marked by religion and its institutions.

The Talk:
"How can a humanist become a chaplain? What does the work involve, and how is it different in the UK to the USA? And why is it important that more humanists take up roles traditionally associated with religion? James will answer these questions and more in this personal story of his journey to humanist chaplaincy."

The Guest Speaker:
Dr. James Croft is the University Chaplain and Lead Faith Advisor for the University of Sussex, and the first Humanist to lead a chaplaincy at a UK university. Formerly, as Senior Leader of the Ethical Society of St. Louis, he led one of the largest Humanist congregations in the world. James has dedicated his life to helping people ask the big questions – Why are we here? How should we treat each other? Where are we going? – and is a popular speaker on matters of religion, ethics, and philosophy in the UK and internationally. He lives in Brighton with his fabulous drag queen husband Kolten and their darling chihuahua Ella.

James is a fun guy and we welcome you to join us for a celebratory moment to remember the humanism behind the holidays: truly being with others.

Due to screening issues, you must
RSVP here to get the Zoom meeting ID, and do not share/publish that info; you will likely be put in a waiting room to be pre-approved before entering the Zoom. Thanks for your patience.
