The Houston Museum of Natural Sciences is opening the George Observatory for a viewing of the total lunar eclipse. This eclipse is special because it occurs a while the moon is at its closest to the earth, so it appears larger than usual in the sky. This is sometimes called a Super Moon.
This event will meet on the George Observatory viewing deck at Brazos Bend State Park. Admission to the park is $7 per person or use your State Parks pass. Admission to the observatory is $10 per person. The observatory will have telescopes out for use.
We'll meet around 6 PM as twilight is fading and the stars will be becoming visible. Check the weather before leaving and bring warm clothing as we will be standing around, not exercising. The event is weather depended will not take place in rain or if the sky is overcast.

WHAT TO BRING:
The observation deck has just a few benches, BRING A CHAIR if you want to sit while observing the moon. Bring binoculars if you have them. You are welcome to bring dinner or a snack to eat in the area around the observatory or inside the building below. Clothing for the cooler evening temperatures.
