Buffalo Bayou - Terry Hershey Park West ~ 10 Miles
Details
The heat index for the hike is expected to be 101 degrees by noon. Please use discretion and caution. If you are not feeling well stop walking and ask someone to pick you up.
Hiking is supposed to be fun. There is no reason at all for it to turn into a serious medical situation.
Bring and drink extra water or consider staying home if you don't know how your body handles the heat.
HIKE:
The hike starts at the parking lot on the South Sam Houston Toll Road feeder and is an out and back about 10 miles. The trail is for multiple activities with many runners, bikers and children. We will hike mostly on grass to avoid bikers and stay in the shade as well as we can but there are some unshaded areas so don’t forget to wear sunscreen.
About HATs and our hikes
https://www.hatsandmore.org/
HATs organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness level to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.
Start the morning well hydrated, Please bring and drink plenty of water. If you are unaccustomed to longer walks, bring at least one liter more than you might normally take on a walk.
Overheating can happen to anyone, stop walking and ask for help if you don't feel well so it doesn't become something serious.
Gathering Place:
Terry Hershey Park Hike & Bike Trail Parking Lot
South Sam Houston Toll Road Feeder
We’ll meet in the parking lot.
There are restrooms along trails. The first one is about 0.5 miles after start.
