DETAILS
The trails on the south side of Memorial Drive.
WHERE WE MEET
Apple Maps uses old roads that no longer exist. Use Google Maps.
Please look at the photos.
South side of Memorial Dr, east of the land bridge tunnels. Red arrow on location map is where we meet. Plenty of parking in this older part of the park with picnic tables and refreshing restrooms.
Please see photos for where to meet and where we’re walking.
There are exciting new numbered trail markers useful for not getting lost and for 911 if needed and there is a newly marked Aqua Trail (which had been an unmarked unofficial trail).
THE HIKE
This will be a lot of shade but of course, also large sunny sections.
Green Trail and back on wide trail along Memorial, then a mix of all the other color trails.
THE TRAIL
Mostly flat, watch your feet for tree roots. There will be bicyclists, be ready to holler ‘rider up or rider back’. A lot of shade, some sunny parts.
HEAT PRECAUTIONS
The heat index is now regularly above 90° F before noon. Consider your heat tolerance. Start the day well hydrated and bring at least a third more water than you carry in cooler weather. Three liters is not a bad idea.
But don't freeze all your water! It may not melt fast enough for you.
If you don't feel well or find that you can't keep up, tell someone right away. We can help. But stop walking so it doesn't become something serious.
HATs organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness needed to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.
