Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Center is a great place for a summer hike with lots of shade as well as beautiful views of Spring Creek as well as opportunities to see wild life, including Nutria and Bald Eagle.
Expect hot weather and bring extra water, 3 liters is recommended.
Jesse H. Jones Park & Nature Centeris a premier 312-acre nature preserve. The park features a variety of plant and wildlife species, white sand beaches along Spring Creek, swamps and sloughs with century-old cypress trees, and a pristine floodplain located in a hardwood and pine forest. All features are accessible by over eight miles of paved, handicap-friendly pedestrian trails and several unpaved primitive trails. The Spring Creek Greenway, with over 12 miles of paved trail system along Spring Creek, is also accessible from the park’s Judy Overby Bell Trail.
The Redbud Hill Homestead, a recreated 1820s-30s Texas homestead, features a log cabin, smokehouse, root cellar, chicken coop, kitchen garden, barn, an outhouse, and blacksmith and woodworking shops. A re-created Akokisa-Ishak Indian Village, adjacent to the homestead, displays seasonal encampment structures of local tribes that inhabited the forests of southeast Texas during the colonization era.
THE HIKE:
We'll start at Park's Nature Center, go to the east, till reach interstate 69, then turn back same route . We'll go through two loops in the middle of the park, after which return to the Nature Center, completing the hike.
Restroom is available at the start of the hike only and not along the trail! Once we back in the park for the later part of the hike, there'll be restroom again.

Please use caution. The heat index is now regularly above 90° F before noon. Consider you heat tolerance and bring extra water. If you do get overheated or don't feel well, tell someone right away. We can help. Overheating can happen to anyone, stop walking if you don't feel well so it doesn't become something serious.
