Buffalo Bayou - Terry Hershey Park West Summer Hike ~8.0 Miles

HATs organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness level to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.

Summer is here and the heat index is into the 90's before noon. Start the morning well hydrated, Please bring and drink plenty of water. If you are unaccustomed to longer walks, bring at least one liter more than you might normally take on a walk. Three liters is not too much to bring.

Overheating can happen to anyone, stop walking and ask for help if you don't feel well so it doesn't become something serious.

Gathering Place:
Dairy Ashford trailhead AKA the Anthills trailhead.

There are no bathrooms at the trailhead. The first one is at about 5 miles.

The Hike:
Starting from the Dairy Ashford trailhead, we'll head west to George Bush Park. The path is mostly hike and bike trails with alternatives on the grass.

This is a partly sunny hike. We'll stay in the shade as well as we can but there are unshaded sections.
