Trinity NWR Brierwood and Page Units ~11 Miles
Details
Are they bears or alligators? The Bigfoot of the bottomlands? Or your favorite hike organizers?
These images are AI generated. Any similarity to actual hike organizers is purely coincidental. But, that is just what AI would say, isn't it?
The Hike:
A two part hike in different units of the Trinity Wildlife Refuge. The first hike will start at the Brierwood Unit Parking Lot. The trail is 6.6 mils of mostly shaded native materials in the Trinity River bottomlands.
The second part is a short distance away and will cover 4.4 miles on native trails in the nearby Page Unit.
This is river bottomland and tends to stay wet for some time after a rain making it a great place to check out the waterproofing on your boots. Be prepared with a change of socks and dry shoes for the after hike event.
About HATs and our hikes
https://www.hatsandmore.org/
HATs organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Expect the same risks and take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness level to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.
Safety Precautions:
Hiking is supposed to be fun. If you don't feel well or can't keep up, tell someone right away and stop walking so it doesn't become something serious. Call the hike leader. We can help get you off the trail.

There is no address for the trailhead. From TX 105 turn right on Gaylor Lake Rd. When the road turns right, take a left in the middle of the bend onto County Road 2306 and follow to the end. Then continue down the drive path.
The Meetup venue and Google Maps links are to the correct points. Double check the routing in your app before you leave.

Brierwood Parking:
The Brierwood trailhead is quite small. Try parking on the road leading to the unit. Use care when parking on the shoulder. We have had people get stuck here.
Page Unit Parking:
The second hike is at the Page unit. Since the road to the parking area is poor quality, we plan to park just off highway 105 at the area used for fishing. This can be rough. If you feel like the ground is too rough or too soft, please skip this part of the hike.

Bathrooms:
None. The FUEL MAXX on 105 east of Cleveland appears to be the last chance.
The Trail:
This is hardwood bottomland. Expect the trails to be boggy and have some standing rain water. The standing water depends on local rain and the level of the Trinity River.
