This is a great hike in the shady woods with over 90% shade so come and get 18-19,000 steps closer to finishing the HATS Lone Star Trek and enjoy the walk in the forest on the holiday weekend.

This hike is the great segment of HATS' Eighth Cycle of the entire Lone Star Hiking Trail. We have several people finishing the trail today so come for the hike and stay for the champagne. Someone will pass around a clipboard to record our attendees for your credit toward completing the Lone Star Hiking Trail.

About HATs and our hikes

HEAT PRECAUTIONS:
The spring is wrapping up so the days can still be quite warm. Start the day well hydrated. Bring more water than you do in cool weather

But don't freeze all your water! It may not melt fast enough for you.

Hike Safety:
If you don't feel well or find that you can't keep up, tell someone right away. Stop walking so it doesn't become something serious. We can help get you off the trail.

If you need help on the trail call or text the leaders
Wing - 713-306-9734
Tom - 832-439-5797

HATs organizers are not guides nor do we have any special training. We are here to come up with hiking ideas and get the hike started. Take the same precautions you would if hiking alone, including the fitness needed to make long hikes. Then enjoy the hike among friends.

Gathering Place:
Four Notch Hunters Camp
Directions to Four Notch Trailhead

Bathrooms:
None on the trail. The last place is in New Waverly.

The Hike:
A big loop trail through the forest. A fair amount of in and out of deep creek beds.

The Trail: The hike is on the typical sand soils native to the region on marked SHNF trails. Look for rectangular blazes on the trees.
