San Marcos Float

Details
Hopefully we've survived all the rain now! Time to get back out on the river. I'm planning a return to the San Marcos river.
This is a beautiful paddle we did last fall. We will put in at Spencer Canoes in Martindale and paddle 5 miles down the river to the dam at Staples TX, where there is a takeout. It's a really pretty trip, and we won't see a lot of other people. But we will see a lot of animals. Count on seeing some water snakes, tons of birds, all sorts of fish, and maybe racoons and deer.
There are some mild rapids on this paddle. No low-water dams or steep drops, so nothing to be scared of in normal river conditions. If it rains a lot, we can keep an eye on the river flow.
There is a small launch fee we'll pay to the owner, I think it's about $7/person. Spencer Canoes also offers rentals for people who don't have a kayak ($35), so if you haven't gone because you don't have a boat this is the trip for you.
Martindale is about 40 minutes from Austin. Please arrive by 9:30am so we can launch by 10am. We will be able to drop a car at the take-out to shuttle people back at the end.
