The chef-owner of this traditional Pakistani family restaurant makes everything homemade, and eating here feels less like going to a restaurant and more like being invited into someone’s mom’s kitchen. There are plenty of dishes to choose from, and I ordered the butter chicken with garlic naan. Here’s the important part: when she brings out your butter chicken, don’t eat yet. Wait for the naan! In a traditional Pakistani family meal, the food may already be on the table, but you wait for the fresh, made-to-order naan so you can eat everything together. Once that piping-hot naan comes straight out of the oven, tear it apart and eat it with the butter chicken and sauce. For me, the naan is absolutely essential, and this might be my favorite fresh naan on the island because it is literally coming straight from the oven to your table. The butter chicken was delicious, with tender chicken and a flavorful, spicy sauce that was even better soaked up with the garlic naan. I also had the mango lassi, which was different from versions I’ve had at Indian restaurants but really good—just make sure you shake it well before drinking. Next time, I definitely want to try the oxtail. You don’t see beef dishes very often at Indian restaurants, so seeing her Pakistani menu and her own cooking influences include beef immediately caught my attention. Don’t come expecting a conventional full-service restaurant. You order at the counter, grab your own drink from the refrigerator, tell her what you took when you check out, and, most importantly, patiently wait while she makes your naan fresh. She was busy cooking and serving everyone when I arrived, but once things slowed down, we had an amazing conversation about how she moved here, fell in love with Hawaii, and eventually opened this restaurant. It has only been open for about three months, and I really hope people support this kind of small, independently owned, homemade restaurant. Hawaii doesn’t have many Pakistani restaurants, and places this personal and unique deserve a chance to stay. It’s right behind the Walmart parking lot. Highly recommended—go with an open mind, enjoy the homemade experience, order the naan, and whatever you do, don’t start eating until that hot, fresh naan hits the table.
