Wailupe Loop


Details
The Wailupe Loop trail begins in the Wailupe valley forest, climbs a ridge to the Ko'olau Summit Trail (KST) then briefly follows it north to the summit of Wiliwilinui. We will descend the Wiliwilinui Ridge trail and drop back down into the Wailupe Valley via a steep descent back to where we began.
Suitable for advanced to strong Intermediate hikers
Type: Valley and ridge loop
Length: 5.5 miles
Elevation gain: 1,200 ft
Location: above Wai'alae Iki and Wailupe
Difficulty: Difficult with 1200+ ft ascent. Some slippery and steep parts with ropes.
Recommendations: Plenty of water, a snack, hat, gloves, sunscreen, trekking pole, small first aid kit, and microspikes.
Time: About 5 hours
Dangers: Intense physical activity, exhaustion, dehydration, brief narrow ridge hiking with potentially deadly drop-offs.
