Ad hoc tickets may be obtainable from the venue on the day or someone may drop out in which we will pass their place onto the next person to RSVP. However we still hope you can join us for the other part of the day. Please continue to check your inbox for updates.

We aim to start our walk at London Bridge and from here, we can easily follow the South Bank and enjoy the views along the way. The route is about 4 miles (6 km) (or as long as we want it to be) following paved paths on the riverside. The path is officially known as "The Queen's Walk", and is part of a much longer Jubilee Walkway and we can stop off where the mood takes us as there is lots to see.

Once we have fed our souls with great views there will be an opportunity to feed our stomachs and stop off for lunch somewhere.

Then the plan is to take a short journey to the Sky Garden where we can take advantage of the beautiful views whilst having a cocktail/mocktail in the bar before returning home**. Tickets are free and we have reserved 10 tickets for 3.45 pm. Please indicate if you would like to go to the Sky Garden or if you will just go for the morning/lunchtime event.**

**If you haven't joined us before, if we do play a simple game of any sort it usually degenerates into a bit of a hilarious muddle so if you want some good company and light relief from the stresses of life, please join us.

The good thing about the Happy Ladies Book Club is that collectively we are finding that we are discovering books that we wouldn’t ordinarily read. Sometimes we find hidden gems and sometimes some of us don’t finish a book because it’s not our thing but that’s ok. We just discuss what we liked and what we didn’t and usually we find something about the book that we had missed.

Our member’s selection for July 13th “A Botanical Daughter” by Noah Medlock
This is a captivating tale of two Victorian gentlemen hiding their relationship away in a botanical garden who embark on a Frankenstein-style experiment with unexpected consequences.

Whilst it is an unusual thing, to live in a botanical garden Simon and Gregor are an unusual pair of gentlemen. Hidden away in their glass sanctuary from the disapproving tattle of Victorian London, they are free to follow their own interests without interference. For Simon, this means long hours in the dark basement workshop, working his taxidermical art. Gregor's business is exotic plants – lucrative, but harmless enough. Until his latest acquisition, a strange fungus which shows signs of intellect beyond any plant he's seen, inspires him to attempt a masterwork: true intelligent life from plant matter.

Driven by the glory he'll earn from the Royal Horticultural Society for such an achievement, Gregor ignores the flaws in his plan: that intelligence cannot be controlled; that plants cannot be reasoned with; and that the only way his plant-beast will flourish is if he uses a recently deceased corpse for the substrate.
