Historic Town Walk in Morganton NC, Where Frankie and Johnny Were Lovers

Details
Walk Morganton City with a choice of 6 KM/3.7 mile and 9 KM/5.6 mile walks. Flowers are in bloom and the trees have leaved out.
The 6 KM walk includes historic old neighborhoods with homes dating from the 1800s through the 1920s, a picturesque historic downtown area, and a beautiful old courthouse. There is even a "KFC house!"
The 9 KM walk also includes additional neighborhoods and the site where Frankie Silver (of "Frankie and Johnny Were Lovers" fame) was hung for killing her husband.
We will be walking with the Asheville Amblers, AARP, Strider, and perhaps more. Register at the Burke County Visitor Information Center at 10:00 a.m. with step-off at 10:30.
These walks include some moderate hills and stair climbing, but is almost entirely on pavement. It is suitable for strollers, but not for wheelchairs. Dogs are welcome.
Dress for the weather. Bring water and a protein snack. Some might want walking sticks due to the hills. Tennis shoes will be fine.
After walking, most of us will be going to Boulevard BBQ for lunch. You are invited to join the group there as well. Delicious!
