Walk the Stumphouse Passage of the Palmetto Trail, Walhalla SC

The Stumphouse Passage is accessible from the center of Stumphouse Park ($5 entry fee per vehicle). Stumphouse Passage is a dual-use trail for hikers and mountain bikers. The hiking portion of the trail is 1.5 miles (though it is unclear whether that is one way or whether it is out-and-back).

Since the length is uncertain, we will offer the addition of a walk to and into the Stumphouse Tunnel, which has a constant 50 degree temperature year-round. It will feel great as the day moves from warm to hot! This is an additional 1/4 mile walk, apparently one-way. The tunnel is unfinished, the project having been abandoned during the 1850s.

Dress for the weather. Consider a hat and sunscreen. Please bring plenty of water and a protein snack. Reviews of this walk consider it to be family-friendly, so tennis shoes should be fine (unless it has rained a lot recently). I plan to take a walking stick just in case. Dogs on leash are welcome. Bathrooms are available.
