Spartanburg: Campuses, Downtown, and a Traditional Stop at Krispy Kreme

Details

We will join the Asheville Amblers, AARP, and perhaps some others, for a delightful walk through picturesque "Sparkle City" with its many beautiful fountains. The walk includes Converse and Wofford Colleges and Liberty Park, tree-lined neighborhoods, fine homes, and a vibrant downtown.

Choices are between a 6 KM/3.7 mile, a 9 KM/ 5.6 mile, and a 12 KM/7.5 mile walk. The latter two include the traditional stop at the Krispy Kreme across the street from the location of the historic, original Krispy Kreme store.

Look for us in the break room at the YMCA of Greater Spartanburg. Register at 9:00. Step-off at 9:30. (The walk is free, but the Amblers do accept donations; suggested donation is $4.00).

Dress for the weather. Tennis shoes are fine, as it is mostly pavement. There are only a few relatively minor hills, so hardly anyone will want walking sticks, although I will probably use a single stick. However, this event is not suitable for wheelchairs and is most difficult for strollers. Dogs are welcome on this walk, outside of the YMCA and Krispy Kreme. Please bring plenty of water and a protein snack (and a little money for Krispy Kreme).

Some will also go for lunch after the walk. You may join in, if you like.
