Excited to try a new-to-me trail. From the online descriptions, it is 1.7 miles each way and easy (although AllTrails says it can be quite steep on the way up, but it is only 331 feet elevation gain). The summit is a grassy bald with 360-degree views.
The trail is accessed by the Cherohala Skyway, NC mile marker 8. There is a small paved parking lot located right off the Cherohala Skyway. There are only 4 parking spaces, no oversized vehicles, so you may want to carpool. Should the parking lot be full, overflow parking is available on the shoulder of the Cherohala Skyway.
This is a dog-friendly hike. The trail begins on a former fire service road, which can get overgrown and muddy, so long pants and boots are recommended. From there, we will follow a narrow path through the grasslands. The hike is out-and-back.
As always, bring plenty of water and a protein snack. Dress for the weather. Bring a camera. I suspect walking sticks aren't necessary, but I plan to take them anyway. There are no restrooms available, so you may want to take care of any needs while passing through Robbinsville.
