Saturday Morning 5 KM or 10 KM Walk in Morganton City
Details
Walk Morganton City with a choice of 5 KM/3.1 mile and 10 KM/6.2 mile guided walks. The walks include interesting neighborhoods and the picturesque downtown/stately courthouse area. It also includes a quaint little park. The 10 KM adds the site where the only woman in NC history was hanged (bet you have heard of the song featuring this event).
We will be walking with the Asheville Amblers, AARP, Stryder, and perhaps more. The walk is free, but the Amblers accept donations ($4 suggested).
Register in the parking lot at 201 N Green Street at 8:30 a.m. with step-off at 9:00. I suspect a large group will include a Dutch treat lunch at Boulevard BBQ after the walk; you are welcome to join in if you are interested in doing so.
These walks include some moderate hills and stair climbing but are almost entirely on pavement. They are suitable for strollers, but not for wheelchairs. Sorry, only service dogs this time.
Restrooms are scarce, so be prepared.
Dress for the weather. Bring water and a protein snack. Some might want walking sticks due to the hills. Tennis shoes will be fine.
