Foreign words are generally not allowed in a game of Scrabble. But there are many exceptions. Usually this is because a foreign word has no direct translation to an English one.

Some examples are TSUNAMI, HAIKU, PRETZEL, ZEITGEIST, ZEPPELIN, BAGUETTE, JAMBEAU, MAQUIS, CONQUISTADOR, JUNTA, and LLAMA.
