Daniel is the Chief Operating Officer of Shift Health Paradigms, a healthcare startup that has developed TickiT. A number of events and opportunities led Daniel to this position. As a teenager, he was a competitive athlete, ski racing for Canada. A series of injuries, operations and then a significant concussion led him to understand the sometimes challenging interface between health care providers and patients. As a combined Arts and Science at McMaster led Daniel to understand that bridging gaps between expert scientists and lay people is a key first step to effective Knowledge Translation and effective communication. He used those skills at University to create community through founding the development and management of a social media website Happening Hamilton. The development of TickiT brought together his interests in improving health care through improving patient/provider communication and data collection with innovative technology. Since working with Shift Health, Daniel has presented at Apps for Health, eMental Health, won Best Patient Education App at Hacking Health, and is co-author on a paper in press at Journal of Medical Internet Research.
