If you’re using only medical science to treat illness, you might be missing the point.

Art can nourish our hearts, rejuvenate our spirits, and help us forget our pains.

But art hasn’t always been part of the healthcare experience. In fact, besides sun-faded framed prints of boats by the ocean, it’s often still missing. Research suggests that engaging with music, visual, and movement-based creative expressions is linked to improved health outcomes. Even the NIH has identified connections between healing and art (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2804629/).

Come learn about work folks are doing in healthcare settings around the country to ease patient suffering with art. We’ll hear stories of dance therapy, painting, fabric arts and song and their effects on patients in healthcare settings. We’ll make some art, too. Because health is not simply the absence of disease. It’s the presence of wellness.

As usual, dinner will be provided.
