This introductory lecture for those individuals who experience themselves or are in the life of someone with attention deficits, Dr. Sherlin explains the primary symptoms of ADHD as well as the diagnostic criteria used by professionals to render a diagnosis of the disorder. He also explains the core difficulties individuals with ADHD have in their executive functioning, which is the basis for self-control. A discussion of the many causes of ADHD, including neurological problems, heredity and genetics are reviewed. The major types of treatment used in the management of ADHD will be presented both traditional approaches and alternative approaches so that the attendee can evaluate what might be best for their situation. The conversation will have a significant emphasis toward healthy nutrition, lifestyle and self-regulation techniques and the influence of those concepts on the symptom presentation of ADHD and non-clinical attention challenges.
