VSET POTLUCK, COOKING CLASS

THE NEXT REGULAR MEETING of the Vegetarian Society of East Tennessee will be held this coming Sunday, October 4, 6 pm, at our regular meeting spot, the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike. Our potluck supper with both vegetarian and vegan options will begin about 6 p.m, and our cooking class, led by Matthew Blondell will begin about 6:45 p.m. Matthew, whose motto is "Food is Love, Y'All," just started his own vegan catering business, the Oasis on Linden. ( Read below about Matthew's private cooking class coming up soon at the Magnolia Art House! ) On Sunday Matthew will show us how to make a Green-inspired lemon, white bean, and kalamata olive soup, which Matthew describes as both filling and light. The cost to participate in Sunday's event is $4 per person, $7 per couple, or $10 per family. Please pay Kelly at the front desk. Donations and membership dues help us rent our space, pay our chef, and hire a dishwasher.

1. ABOUT THIS POTLUCK. The safe way to enter the church is by turning onto Painter Ave. from Concord Street. Painter Ave dead ends into the church's steep back driveway. Turning into the church coming from the west may be unsafe. Please label your dish as vegan or vegetarian, and list your name, the name of the dish, and its ingredients. Remember that we have some members who can't eat salt, soy, onion, etc. Wearing a name tag, supplied in the front lobby, helps people know who you are. Please bring your own serving spoon. Please shop at our veggie bookstore, and our white elephant booth (donations accepted at both shops). We also accept containers for taking home leftovers. Volunteers are appreciated after the program to put up tables and chairs and to help clean the dining hall. RSVP to Bob at 865 936 0081 if you plan to attend on Sunday.

2. LOOKING FOR GOOD COOKS! We need vegan chefs to demonstrate on the first Sundays for the rest of our "academic year" : November 1, December 6, January 3, February 7, March 7, A[pril 4, and May 2. Let Bob know if interested at 865-936-0081. We rely on volunteers buy pay can be negotiated.

3. MATTHEW'S AT THE MAGNOLIA ART HOUSE. This new venue is located at 1405 East Magnolia Avenue. Matthew will demonstrate how to make one of my favorite dishes that he cooks, habichuelas guisadas, a Puerto Rican bean stew which is incredibly tasty. The cost is by sliding scale, from $25 to $50.
