Celebrate for Change : Día de los Muertos Dance Benefit for Immigrant Rights
Saturday, November 1st
5:30-8:00PM @ Still & Moving Center
1024 Queen St | $20 Suggested Donation
In light of the current administration's abuses happening in our and the wider community through ICE, Heart Beats Collective is proud to offer a special Day of the Dead Ecstatic Dance Fundraiser, with all proceeds going to the National Immigrant Justice Center. This organization is working boots on the ground to provide for immigrants who are being threatened, detained, and deported inhumanely. We chose November 1st because Día de Muertos is a time to celebrate our departed ancestors. Many of us come from powerful immigrant roots, whether we ourselves are 1st generation here or trace our line many generations back. We will have an ofrenda (alter) to place pictures and mementos of blood, land, and/or spiritual ancestors who uprooted what they knew and took the leap toward a better life. There will also be sugar skull face painting and empanadas from a local Latinx business for sale.
All proceeds will be donated to helping immigrant communities in need. Let's honor the past while coming together as Comm-Unity to face this challenging present moment. Together we can spread POWER, not panic, and move toward a more empowered future!
- 5:30 - 6p Sugar Skull Face Painting w/ Laurel
- 6 - 6:30p Somatic Movement Warm Up w/ Skyler
