Sensing Change: Brain-Inspired Navigation Beyond GPS
Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum, Im Neuenheimer Feld 280, 69120 Heidelberg, Heidelberg, DEAutonomous navigation is evolving beyond satellite systems, drawing inspiration from how biological brains solve the challenge of localization. From energy-efficient visual recognition to underwater perception, bio-inspired approaches are opening new pathways for robots to understand and navigate their environments.
We are excited to welcome Tobias Fischer, Senior Lecturer and ARC DECRA Fellow at the Queensland University of Technology, to our heidelberg.ai/NCTS Data Science seminar series.
In this in-person event, he will present cutting-edge work on Visual Place Recognition (VPR), demonstrating how event-based cameras and spiking neural networks enable low-power devices to recognize locations with remarkable efficiency and precision. The talk will also explore applications in underwater reef restoration and introduce Pixi, a versatile tool for running robotics and AI libraries across any operating system.
We look forward to your participation in this exciting seminar, where you will gain valuable insights into how brain-inspired computing is reshaping autonomous navigation and pushing the boundaries of energy-efficient AI at the edge.
