In The Myth of Normal, physician and author Gabor Maté explores how many of the physical and mental health struggles common in modern society are deeply connected to stress, trauma, disconnection, and the pressures of contemporary culture. Drawing on decades of medical experience and research, Maté challenges the idea that widespread anxiety, addiction, chronic illness, and burnout are simply “normal” parts of life.

For this book club meeting, we’ll discuss the book’s central ideas about health, healing, relationships, and the ways our culture shapes human well-being. Whether you agree with Maté’s conclusions or approach them critically, the book offers a thought-provoking perspective on what it means to live well in today’s world. It's not necessary for you to have read the entire book to participate in the discussion, but it will help if you're familiar with at least some of the contents.
