Each participating group schedules its own trash cleanups at their adopted location.
The Adopt-A-Shoreline (AASP) and Adopt-a-Feeder Stream (AAFSP) programs work like the NC Adopt-A-Highway Program. A group of 4-10 promise to adopt a small section of Jordan Lake shoreline or of a feeder stream to the lake and remove litter three times for AASP or two times for AAFSP per year. The adopting group can be a youth group, neighborhood group, high school class, civic or religious organization, boating clubs, small business or corporation. Not only will unsightly litter be removed, but we hope that shoreline users will be made more aware of the problem.
Each group notifies us of the date of each cleanup so that trash bags, trash grabbers, gloves and first-aid kit are provided. We can also remove the trash bags after the cleanup although permission slips are available for groups to dispose at the Chatham County Trash Collection Centers.
We place a sign at the location to acknowledge the group as shown in this photo. Most of the AASP sites are shoreline access points outside of the Jordan Lake State Recreation Areas. All sites are easily accessed by foot paths from the road. Groups can also suggest other sites.
The AAFSP is newer and has only two groups participating so far. These are the Meadowmont Friends of Little Creek in Chapel and the Buckingham Homeowners Association in Apex on Beaver Creek.
The typical time required to remove litter from a section is less than 3 hours.

How It Works
Group should have at least four members to guarantee two or more participants per event
Conduct three litter cleanups per year, preferably in early spring, mid-summer and early fall. A 3-year commitment is required. Sign a liability waiver form for each participant to participate in each event (this may require parent/guardian signature if participant is a minor) Provide a contact person and contact information Obey safety precautions such as wear closed toe shoes, gloves, long pants, long sleeve shirt and hat (these are all to avoid cuts, ticks, chiggers and poison ivy) Pick up and return supplies from Clean Jordan Lake storage location Leave trash bags along side of the road Send report that gives hours spent, number of trash bags collected, number of volunteers and any interesting items of trash
How to Join
A YES RSVP means that you have a group that wants to join the Adopt-A-Shoreline Program. You will then be contacted by the Organizer to arrange the details.
